Denali National Park Information
|
|
Easier Than Ever
Access at first was by railroad from the 1920s to mid-1950s, when the Denali
Highway (Highway 8) reached it from the east. The park was opened to Anchorage
and Fairbanks highway traffic in 1968 when the George Parks Highway (Highway 3)
reached it.
Today Denali National Park is a half-day car, bus, or train ride from the two
major airports, located in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Denali National Park -
Getting Here
|
|

Denali National Park entrance is 240 miles north of Anchorage
and 120 miles south of Fairbanks. You can get to Denali by way of the scenic
Alaska Railroad, taking a comfortable motor coach, a rental car, or by
chartering a small plane. Unfortunately, there are no regularly scheduled
commercial flights to Denali National Park. Each transportation option has its
advantages and most Alaska vacation travelers combine two options for variety
and flexibility.
The Alaska Railroad offers plenty of scenery at a leisurely, comfortable pace.
The train from Fairbanks to Denali National Park arrives in time for a same-day
connection with our many lodge busses. This option is great for creating a
north-to-south itinerary starting in Fairbanks that cuts out any backtracking
from Anchorage-based itineraries.
The motor coach option is great for travelers that don’t have much time, because
it is the only one that allows same-day transfers from cruise ships all the way
to Denali National Park. The coach begins in Seward, stops in Anchorage, and
proceeds on to Denali. If you want to travel at your own pace, car rentals
are available at both major airports in Fairbanks and in Anchorage.
